When is the appropriate time to apply to Acts 29?
If you have already planted your church or currently lead an established church, then you can apply at any time. If you are a new lead planter, called by God, appropriately gifted, certain of the task which lies before you, and you are 12 months or less from starting your church, it is time to apply. Please note that clarity of call is more important than a precise timeline (i.e. the 12 month figure is approximate, though the clarity of call is essential).
If you are unsure whether you are a lead guy, do not have a clear call, lack giftedness, are uncertain of what you are to do, and/or do not have a timeline in place, it would be better to patiently wait and seek the Lord for clarity and not submit an application with Acts 29 at this time. A helpful option may be to attend regional Acts 29 events, listen to past Boot Camp sessions to assist in exploring your call, or to read "Church Planter" by Darrin Patrick. Also, be sure to review the "calling" section of our resources and prayerfully ask yourself if you are the man described therein.
Some great ways to help you determine whether you are called to plant a church and/or partner with Acts 29 include:
- Attending an upcoming Acts 29 regional event to assist in exploring your call.
- Read through the "About" section of our website and the Distinctives and Hopes of Acts 29.
- Work through "Church Planter" by Darrin Patrick, Scott Thomas' blogs "The Planter's Ultimatum", "Am I a Church Planter?", and Allen Thompson's "Is Church Planting for Me?" Prayerfully ask yourself if you are the man described therein.
- If you'd like to receive a "Church Planting Resource" email of resources and content that's helpful for aspiring church planters and current, please email firstname.lastname@example.org requesting to receive those resources.
If you desire to do a church planting internship before planting your church or would like to see if there are some job openings within any Acts 29 churches, please feel free to fill out this form and we'll see what we can do to connect you with some Acts 29 churches in your target area.
Please note the following before applying:
1) REVIEW THE ABOUT PAGE, DOCTRINAL DISTINCTIVES, & COVENANT:
Please carefully review and be in agreement with Acts 29's Doctrinal Distinctives http://www.acts29network.org/about/distinctives/ and Covenant. http://www.acts29network.org/plant-churches/covenant/
2) REVIEW THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS:
Reference the Assessment Process http://www.acts29network.org/plant-churches/the-assessment-process/ page to know the assignments that are required to complete the application process. Please note that you will need to devote a considerable amount of time to finish the application process.
3) TO APPLY:
To apply to Acts 29 to pursue assessment and potential membership, please complete the "Initial Application" (Lead Pastor/Planter of the church is the only one that needs to apply; the Initial Application will take 10-15 minutes to complete). All applicants will need to read "Church Planter" by Darrin Patrick.
*Networking is a key aspect of Acts 29. If you live in an area where there are other Acts 29 churches, we would encourage you to connect with those Acts 29 pastors and planters in your target area to begin to develop relationships as we network together to see the gospel transform your city. See list of Acts 29 churches here. http://www.acts29network.org/find-churches/
